Astrolabe - Whakaterenga @XXI International Image Festival (Festival Internacional de la Imagen) October 2022

Astrolabe - Whakaterenga was honoured to be featured in the XXI International Image Festival (Festival Internacional de la Imagen) during October 2022.

Highlights included full dome screenings with PLANETARIO DE BOGOTÁ, a Webcast, and the World Stage Design Mozilla Hubs project exhibition. Appreciation and thanks to our dedicated creatives and festival staff for their efforts in making this another audience success.

Good Company Arts was there in spirit, contributing virtually to a stellar programme from director Felipe C. Londoño with his team. We created a dome version of the VR work for Bogotá, and an oceanic Pounamu edition for Manizales.

Astrolabe - Whakaterenga reimagines our perception of body, space and time with the support of digital technologies. Early Pacific Island and Asian astronomy has inspired the creation of this multicultural project. Ancients regarded stars as living entities - their cosmology connected each person with a ‘soul star’. Whakaterenga translates to mean 'launch'. The project transports audiences in immersive space voyages for 360 dome cinema, film and VR. For Astrolabe - Pounamu we are investigating ideas around dimension and projection. Spaces and forms come alive when given the pulse of human presence. This edition acknowledges the coastal energies of Aotearoa New Zealand and offers an immersive field that speaks to the transitional threshold where land meets water. Heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our collaborating performing artists Xiao Ke and ZiHan, Janessa Dufty and Christina Guieb.
