Astrolabe Pounamu Wide Print
Astrolabe Pounamu Wide Print
Astrolabe Pounamu draws inspiration from the act of carving and engraving stone, bone - and from printing, impressing. In Chinese culture, the snake is the most enigmatic animal among the zodiac animals. Snakes represent the symbol of wisdom. Historically, serpents and snakes represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. Astrolabe Pounamu enters into a dialogue with methodologies developed by early Asian and Pacific Island astronomers, and suggests a philosophical ideology of the movement of celestial bodies - acknowledging the oneness of all life. Good Company Arts director Daniel Belton has created 8 inter-linked film frames with head and tail sections to depict the serpent/snake in the Chinese Zodiac for Chinese New Year Festival 2021, installed at Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand in a 15m wide facade print, and available here in a limited edition 1.5m giclée art print.
